Five Major Public Works Projects Completed

The City of Willowbay is proud to announce the successful completion of five key public works projects that were carried out during 2024. These initiatives are part of our long-term strategy to enhance infrastructure, promote safety, and improve the overall quality of life for Willowbay residents.

1. Main Street Reconstruction:

The full reconstruction of Main Street, between 3rd and 9th Streets, was completed in late summer 2024. This project included updating the roadbed, improving stormwater drainage, and installing energy-efficient street lighting. As a result, traffic flow has improved, and businesses in the area have reported easier access for customers.

2. Water Main Replacement on Oak Drive:

Aging water mains along Oak Drive were replaced last year, ensuring a more reliable water supply for residents in the area. This upgrade has reduced the number of water line breaks and improved water pressure for homes and businesses. The project was completed ahead of schedule, with minimal impact on local traffic.

3. Willow Park Playground Revitalization:

In fall 2024, Willow Park saw a major upgrade to its playground facilities. New, modern playground equipment was installed, along with additional safety surfacing. This project was aimed at providing a safe and fun environment for children, while also creating new picnic areas for families to enjoy the park’s natural beauty.

4. Intersection Improvements at 7th and Elm Streets:

The busy intersection of 7th and Elm Streets was re-engineered to enhance traffic safety. New traffic signals were installed, along with improved pedestrian crosswalks. The project has significantly reduced congestion and created a safer environment for both drivers and pedestrians.

5. Stormwater Drainage Upgrades in Willowbrook Subdivision:

One of the most critical projects of 2024 was the stormwater drainage upgrade in the Willowbrook subdivision. By installing larger drainage pipes and improving runoff systems, the city has greatly reduced the risk of flooding during heavy rain events. This project ensures long-term protection for homes in the area and helps prevent property damage.

The completion of these projects is a testament to the hard work of our Public Works team and their dedication to keeping Willowbay a thriving and well-maintained city. As we move forward, the city remains committed to investing in infrastructure that meets the evolving needs of our community.
